- Labradorite is a type of feldspar mineral known for its optical effect, where light reflects off internal layers to create flashes of blue, green, gold, and violet. This play of color is called labradorescence and is unique to the stone. It was first discovered in Labrador, Canada in the 18th century, but is also mined in Finland, Madagascar, and Russia. Inuit legends say it holds the northern lights trapped inside.
